HISTORY OF ST. PETER’S INTERNATIONAL AND CAMBRIDGE SCHOOL
St Peter’s International School began as an Early Learning Centre by Mrs Theresa Sophia Bamford in 1994.
After retirement at age 64, Mrs Bamford a veteran teacher still had the passion to nurture children in West Anaji, where she had relocated with her daughter and son-in-law Captain Peter and Mrs Adansi-Andoh. The couple realising the passion, health and strength of the foundress assured her of full sponsorship for the project. So, on the 13th of September 1994 St Peter’s Early Learning Centre was opened with nine (9) pupils at the Andoh’s estate garage. The number steadily increased to 150 in the house. The demand from parents to continue to Basic level called for expansion to a new site within the community, the current Primary Department.
In 1999 the Early Learning centre was changed to a Basic School with only Basic one. Admissions were only done at the preschool level. In 2007 the first batch of 30 students were presented for BECE Their outstanding performance made St Peter’s became a household name in Sekondi -Takoradi, and it has kept the standard to date.
The Motto: Sound Foundation for Excellence drive both students and teachers to work hard to achieve the goal. Providing Quality Education for All.
In 2012 the Cambridge Department was established and is fully accredited by The British Council. The school therefore runs the GES and Cambridge curriculum. It has a pupil/student population of a thousand (1000) and a staff strength of a hundred and ten (110). Out of the 3 names of the foundress and Co-founders Theresa, Monica and Peter the latter name was chosen for the school as it resonated with one of its visions, to have a sound, solid foundation for children as the key to success in education. The name Peter which meant a Rock in the bible was solid and good to adopt. The schools colour Navy blue and white and the sailor’s collar uniform design for the pre-schoolers were all because of late Captain Peter Adansi-Andoh’s professional as a Marine Navigator.
The school Anthem was composed by Mrs Monica Adansi-Andoh.
