Exploring the Cambridge Curriculum:
A Journey from Early Childhood to Upper Secondary
At our school, we follow the Cambridge Curriculum, a globally respected educational framework that nurtures students from their earliest years through to pre-university education. Developed by Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE), this curriculum is designed to cultivate critical thinking, creativity, global awareness, and academic excellence in a structured yet flexible manner.
Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
Age Group: 2–5 years; Key Learning Focus: Play-based exploration and foundational skills
Our Early Years Foundation Stage provides a holistic foundation for young learners, focusing on play, discovery, and meaningful interaction with their environment and incorporates international best practices in early childhood development.

Learning Through Play: Children learn best when they are actively engaged in hands-on, sensory-rich experiences.
Seven Areas of Learning:
- Communication and Language
- Physical Development
- Personal, Social, and Emotional Development
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
Child-Centered Approach: Teachers plan activities based on children’s interests and developmental needs.

This stage fosters confidence, curiosity, and social skills, setting the tone for lifelong learning.
Our Primary (Year 1– 6) Age group 5–11
Key Learning Focus: Building literacy, numeracy, and scientific understanding.
SPCIS Primary builds on the foundations laid in Early Years and introduces a more formal structure to learning, while still keeping it engaging and age-appropriate. It emphasizes core competencies in English, Mathematics, and Science, alongside creative and physical development.
Subjects:
- English (reading and writing)
- Mathematics (number sense, geometry, measurement, data handling)
- Science (basic concepts in biology, physics, and chemistry)
Supporting Subjects:
- Global Perspectives (introduced at upper primary levels)
- ICT and French
Skills Development: Emphasis on problem-solving, communication, collaboration, and digital literacy.
Optional Assessments:
Cambridge Primary Progression Tests – used internally to monitor student growth.
Cambridge Primary Checkpoint – external assessments at the end of Year 6 to evaluate performance against international benchmarks.
Students are encouraged to become confident learners, developing a strong academic base and a growing awareness of the world around them.
Cambridge Lower Secondary (Year 7–9) Age group 11–14
Key Learning Focus: Broadening knowledge and critical thinking.
The Lower Secondary serves as a bridge between primary education and the more rigorous IGCSE programme. It encourages students to think independently, analytically, and creatively, preparing them for the challenges of secondary-level studies.
Subjects:
- English Language.
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Chemistry
- Biology
Additional Subjects:

- French
Assessments:
Cambridge Secondary 1 Progression Tests – provide insights into student performance.
Cambridge Checkpoint Examinations – externally marked tests in English, Math, and Science that offer feedback and certification.
This stage helps students develop a deeper understanding of complex topics, enhances their ability to think critically, and prepares them for the academic rigour ahead.
Upper Secondary – IGCSE (Year 10 – 11) Age group 14–16
Key Learning Focus: Subject mastery, independent study, and global readiness
The Cambridge IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) is one of the most popular international qualifications for students aged 14–16. Recognized by universities and employers worldwide, IGCSEs lay the groundwork for advanced study and future careers.
SPCIS offer the following courses:
- Physics
- Chemistry
- Biology
- Additional Mathematics
- Extended Mathematics
- First Language English
- English as a Second Language
- Foreign Language French
- Information Technology
Rigorous Assessment: Final exams are held at the end of Year 11. Some subjects include practical components.
Skill Development: Emphasis on analytical thinking, research, time management, and subject-specific expertise.
Upon successful completion of IGCSEs, students receive individual certificates. Those who complete a minimum of five subjects including two languages and core sciences may earn the Cambridge ICE (International Certificate of Education) award — a prestigious group award recognized globally.
IGCSEs provide a solid foundation for further study, such as Cambridge International AS & A Levels, the IB Diploma, or other national senior secondary programs.
